Video Game News, Commentary, and Fist Fights
Sony was the last up on a long first day of E3 conferences. Can Sony live up to their big performance last year and can they follow up Microsoft’s strong showing this year? Find out what they revealed below!
First up was an atmospheric trailer for Destiny that really helps show the tone of the game. We were also able to see some more gameplay and cut scenes from the game.
The Order 1886, Now with Zombies!
Zombies have been and still are quite popular in the gaming community and the Order is no different. Even though the “zombie” in the trailer isn’t your typical zombie creature (it has a werewolf vibe going too), it may as well be. Showing off some truly dark and eerie gameplay, we watch as the player tries to escape the aforementioned zombie-esque werewolf creature.
Experience Bird Lovin’ in Entwined
Entwined is an indie game featuring two birds that are described as two souls in love but can never be together. You control two birds with two joysticks moving them through specific colored shapes depending on the bird. Apparently there’s some sort of dragon involved too when the birds combine, it’s all very confusing but on the plus side it is available right now for $9.99 on PS4 so you can be unconfused for about 10 bucks.
Infamous First Light
In this add on for the previously released Infamous Second Son, First Light will star Fetch who was the companion of Delsin from Second Son. First Light will be a stand-alone add on but those who own Second Son will get exclusive content.
Little big Planet 3
Semi abruptly we were introduced to Little Big Planet 3. We were given a slightly awkward gameplay demo, showing some of the new sack people we will be able to control along with their new abilities. Afterwards a trailer was shown detailing the features talked about as well as the story involved.
Project Beast = Bloodborne
We finally know the answer to our burning question involving the leaked details regarding From Software’s new game. Called Bloodborne, the trailer doesn’t exactly give a lot of details other than it’ll be dark, full of decaying monsters, and they are aiming for a 2015 release exclusively for PS4. No word on what franchise (if any) this game is related to.
New Far Cry 4 Info
Far Cry 4 made an appearance at the Sony conference as well and with new features. We learned that you will be able to play with your friends even if they don’t own the game! They didn’t go into detail about what exactly that means but it’s certainly an intriguing concept and one we’ve not really encountered in the home console space before. But this does seem to be a PS4 exclusive feature for now. This was all revealed during a gameplay demo during the Sony conference.
Dead Island 2
Looks like lessons have been learned from the original Dead Island trailer. The Dead Island 2 trailer is far more goofy and tongue in cheek than its predecessor’s trailer which should be a better representation of what we’ll end up getting (although it would be pretty amusing if we got a super emotional and deep game now that we have a goofy trailer). This is clearly just a teaser trailer and no details were given as to exactly what the game is about or will play like. It is expected for Spring 2015.
That’s Not How You Spell “Magicka”
A live action trailer was shown for the sequel Magicka 2: Learn to Spell Again. The trailer shows a wizard dissatisfied with life and wishing for more. A little gameplay is shown at the end but no other details were given.
Grim Fandango Remake
A remake of Tim Schafer’s Grim Fandango will be coming to the PS Vita and PS4 through a partnership with Disney. We’ll have to wait for further information.
I just don’t even… Just watch the trailer, it’s by Suda51 and the game is called Let it Die. It can’t be explained.
From the artist behind Journey, comes a new game called ABZU (AB meaning water and ZU meaning to know). You will be traversing the ocean exploring deep caves and ocean creatures. The game looks quite stunning and worth keeping an eye on.
No Man’s Sky
This is the definition of expansive. Literally spanning a universe, No Man’s Sky is a procedurally generated universe that is, for all intents and purposes, infinite. You can travel from planet to planet seamlessly by travelling in a spaceship through asteroid fields and armadas of ships. Each player starts off on a new planet so there will always be more and more to explore. If that’s not cool enough, this game is absolutely stunning. Keep your eye out for this one.
Mortal Kombat X was finally given a gameplay trailer showing off all of the horrific ways you will be mutilating and otherwise dismembering your foes. Not much else to say, it’s Mortal Kombat.
Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
There was a lot of new footage from Phantom Pain here in the new trailer. I’m sure if you are so inclined you will find many little hidden nuggets in this trailer if you are a hardcore MGS fan. Check out the trailer!
Grand Theft Auto V will be coming to PS4 this Fall which isn’t too surprising. What is surprising is that apparently you can transfer your save over from your PS3 or Xbox 360 to PS4. Wait what? Yeah I don’t know how that’s going to work but that’s pretty cool I guess.
Arkham Knight; Scarecrow Invades
The new Batman game is looking mighty fine with the new and improved Gotham and newly added Batmobile. For the first time you can scream through Gotham in the iconic bat hot rod breaking through pretty much anything that stands in your way. The sheer scope of the city is really impressive and I can’t wait to fly, drive, and grapple my way around. Part way through the trailer Scarecrow takes over, which was a little confusing at first but made for an interesting presentation.
*Gasp* Uncharted 4
Right as you thought the conference was over, Sony had one more game to show and that game was Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. While just a teaser trailer, it does show off some very impressive visuals if that is in engine footage which it supposedly is.
There it is, day one of E3 is over and done. What did you think of all the info Sony dropped on us? Who had the best conference on day one? Let us know what you think!
