Smash Bros Invitational, Dark Souls 2 DLC, and More News!!

In lieu of a podcast (Jeff is out of town this week) we’ve decided to do a text wrap up of our weekly gaming news. Maybe this should be a regular thing? If you like it, let us know! There was a lot of news this week so let’s dive on in.

Dark Souls 2 DLC

Developer From Software has announced that downloadable content for Dark Souls 2 will be available starting July 22 on Xbox Live and Steam and July 23 on Playstation Network. If you find yourself salivating over the thought of more Dark Souls (as I think we all are), there is a Season pass available right now on Steam and Playstation Network. Check out the reveal trailer below!

Project Beast

I’m sure you’ve heard us speculate over the rumored Project Beast, the supposed follow up to From Software’s Dark Souls series. Well now there are more than just screens to go along with this rumor. Last week there was about 20 seconds of leaked footage posted to 4chan for your viewing and speculating pleasure. If true, I imagine we will be hearing more about this title and its supposed PS4 exclusivity during next week’s E3 extravaganza (E4?). Check out the footage for yourself.

Gauntlet is back!

We learned a few months ago of Gauntlet’s triumphant return to the gaming world, and earlier this week we were treated to a shiny new trailer focusing on the game’s new Relic system. Find out just how badly the wizard needs food below!

In addition to the commentators, the Doritos Pope himself, Geoff Keighley, will be hosting the event. You can find out more about the players and announcers on Nintendo’s facebook page. You can also find the details on the tournament rules here. If that wasn’t enough to get you aboard the hype train, following the tournament details was a extra sexy look at the newly announced GameCube adapter for the Wii U. Upon the release of Smash 4, you’ll be able to plug in your wired GCN controllers to the Wii U and play Smash Bros in style!

Costume Quest 2 Screenshots, Release Window

Developer Double Fine release the first screenshots of their trick or treat adventure game sequel Costume Quest 2 this week. The game is slated to release around Halloween time this year on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Windows PC, Mac, and Linux. You can check out the screen shots on Double Fine’s tumblr page.

Terraria Coming to Next Gen

Popular sandbox 2D platformer Terraria will be making the jump to PS4 and Xbox One later this year taking its first steps into the next gen. Publisher 505 Games reported on their forum that the PS4 version will support cross-play and cross-save functionality with the Vita and will be showing this off at E3 this year “behind closed doors”.

This Week in Sales

Ubisoft reported big sales for their newly released open world hacker Watch Dogs, which sold more than 4 million copies during its first week in retail. This makes Watch Dogs Ubisoft’s fastest selling game ever in week one! But Ubisoft isn’t the only ones patting themselves on the back. Nintendo also saw big sales this weekend with the launch of Mario Kart 8. While not selling enough to dethrone Watch Dogs, Nintendo sold 1.2 million copies of Mario Kart 8 in 72 hours increasing UK Wii U sales by a whopping 666%. Mario Kart has always been a big seller, so it should come as no surprise that this is the Wii U’s first big hit.

Arkham Knight Delayed

Continuing the trend of games moving to 2015, Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Knight has been delayed to 2015. While the game is taking longer than expected to complete, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive plans to have a big showing at E3, most likely including Arkham Knight. The game is planned for release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Wii U Quick Boot is Live

If you haven’t already, be sure to update your Wii U to experience the Quick Boot menu in all its glory! This update allows you to play recently accessed software and apps upon starting the system, allowing you to jump into games and Netflix much faster! The Wii U will also auto-dowload updates in Standby mode and now features a GamePad Alerts feature providing you with notifications on the GamePad even when the system is off. Check out the Quick Boot in action below.

New Mortal Kombat Announced

After leaking to several retail sites, Ed Boon (creative director of NetherRealm studios) officially announced the existence of Mortal Kombat X. The gangsta infused trailer feature two dudes beating the living hell out of one another until, surprise, someone meets a grisly end. The game will be coming to PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015.
